Josef Sudek is one of our greatest role models for photography. His works touch us with their simplicity, his chosen subjects are often dark, and enchant with an intimate moment with themselves. We have been to Prague many times and have been to his studio each time. He often photographed the window with flowers, or through the window the tree or the cherry blossoms. His view of small, quiet moments always inspires us.
He always preferred the large format camera, so he could make contact prints and had a result in his hand faster. These small contact prints are still available today at fairs and galleries and we love them. But they are often not signed, the large and „proper“ prints are more interesting for collectors. And yet I always think that these small contact prints are more intimate.
These photographs were taken during our visits to the studio and try to capture the atmosphere.
